Which construction companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Nebraska?
Omaha-based Kiewit Corporation is one of the most active construction employers in Nebraska with a strong history of hiring STEM graduates on OPT. HDR Engineering, also headquartered in Omaha, regularly brings on civil and environmental engineers. Smaller regional general contractors and construction management firms in Lincoln and Omaha also participate, particularly for roles in project engineering and construction technology.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most construction F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the largest share of construction F-1 STEM OPT opportunities in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of engineering and construction headquarters including Kiewit and HDR. Lincoln follows, with steady hiring tied to state infrastructure projects and university-adjacent development. Smaller markets like Grand Island and Kearney occasionally post STEM-eligible construction roles when major infrastructure contracts are active.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify under STEM OPT must tie directly to an accredited STEM degree. In construction, that typically means positions in civil engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, construction management with an engineering or technology degree, and building information modeling. Field superintendent or purely supervisory roles without a technical STEM component generally do not qualify. The O*NET designation for your specific role and degree field determines eligibility.
How do I find construction F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate lets you filter construction jobs in Nebraska specifically by F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers with verified sponsorship history rather than guessing from generic postings. For Nebraska construction, focus searches on Omaha and Lincoln, and prioritize civil, structural, and environmental engineering titles. Checking DOL Labor Condition Application filings through the OFLC Wage Search can also confirm which local firms have recently sponsored STEM workers.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT in Nebraska construction?
Nebraska's construction sector is heavily tied to infrastructure and agricultural facility development, which means many STEM OPT roles are project-based and tied to specific contracts. F-1 STEM OPT students must be employed by an E-Verify enrolled employer, and all STEM OPT positions require a formal training plan through your DSO. Nebraska does not impose additional state licensing burdens specific to OPT holders, but engineering roles may require EIT registration depending on responsibilities.
