Which companies sponsor visas for engineering interns in New Hampshire?
BAE Systems, with a major facility in Nashua, is one of the more active employers sponsoring engineering interns in New Hampshire, particularly for defense and electronics roles. Segra International, Liberty Mutual's technology offices, and several aerospace and manufacturing firms in the Manchester-Nashua corridor also have histories of sponsoring international interns, typically through CPT or OPT authorization tied to U.S. university enrollment.
Which visa types are most common for engineering intern roles in New Hampshire?
Most international engineering interns in New Hampshire work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows current U.S. university students to work with employer authorization without requiring a separate visa petition. J-1 intern and trainee visas are also used, often facilitated through a designated sponsor organization. H-1B sponsorship for internships is uncommon, as its cap-subject structure and employer cost make it impractical for short-term intern positions.
Which cities in New Hampshire have the most engineering intern sponsorship jobs?
Nashua and Manchester account for the majority of engineering intern sponsorship activity in New Hampshire. Nashua's strong defense and semiconductor presence, anchored by employers like BAE Systems, drives significant technical intern hiring. Manchester, the state's largest city, hosts a growing technology and advanced manufacturing sector. Concord and Durham, home to UNH, also see intern activity, particularly for roles tied directly to university research partnerships.
How to find engineering intern visa sponsorship jobs in New Hampshire?
Migrate Mate lists engineering intern positions in New Hampshire filtered specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, making it easier to avoid applying to positions that won't support international candidates. Searching by state and role type on Migrate Mate surfaces employers in the Nashua and Manchester areas who have sponsored interns before. This is particularly useful for F-1 students on CPT or OPT who need to confirm employer eligibility before committing to an application.
Are there any state-specific considerations for international engineering interns in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire has a notable concentration of defense contractors, and some engineering intern roles at those firms may require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to federal security clearance requirements, making them unavailable to international candidates regardless of visa status. Focusing on commercial technology, semiconductor, or manufacturing employers in the Manchester-Nashua area is generally more productive for international engineering interns. UNH and Dartmouth's co-op and internship programs also serve as reliable pipelines to regional employers familiar with sponsoring international students.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering intern jobs in New Hampshire?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
