Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in New Jersey?
New Jersey's largest visa sponsors for controls engineers include pharmaceutical manufacturers like Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and Bristol Myers Squibb, as well as automation and process control firms such as Honeywell and Siemens. Chemical producers along the Delaware River corridor and contract manufacturing organizations in the central Jersey biopharma belt also file H-1B visa petitions regularly for this role.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for controls engineers in New Jersey, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related field. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may also qualify under the TN visa as engineers. Those with extraordinary achievement may explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documented recognition.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
The highest concentration of controls engineer sponsorship activity is in central and northern New Jersey. Raritan, Rahway, and Parsippany host major pharmaceutical and specialty chemical operations. Morristown and Morris Plains have a strong presence from companies in automation and industrial systems. The Middlesex County corridor, including Edison and Piscataway, also draws controls engineering roles tied to manufacturing and university-adjacent research facilities.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search controls engineer roles in New Jersey without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform is built for international candidates and surfaces openings at pharmaceutical, chemical, and industrial automation employers across the state. Filtering by location and role on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to see what's actively hiring and sponsoring in New Jersey.
Are there state-specific considerations for controls engineers seeking visa sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey's Department of Labor sets prevailing wage determinations that employers must meet when filing Labor Condition Applications for H-1B workers, and wages in the central Jersey biopharma corridor tend to reflect the region's high cost of living. The state's concentration of FDA-regulated manufacturing facilities means controls engineers often need experience with GMP environments and process validation, which can strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating specialized, non-generalist qualifications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
