Which companies sponsor visas for mechanics in New Jersey?
Airlines and ground transportation operators near Newark Liberty International Airport are among the most active sponsors, including carriers that employ aircraft and ramp mechanics. Large dealership groups, logistics companies like FedEx and UPS, and heavy equipment service centers operating across the state have also filed sponsorship petitions. Sponsorship availability changes with hiring demand, so checking current job postings directly is the most reliable approach.
Which visa types are most common for mechanic roles in New Jersey?
The H-2B visa covers temporary nonagricultural workers and is used for seasonal or peak-demand mechanic roles. For permanent positions, employers may sponsor mechanics through the EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa, which covers skilled workers. Aircraft mechanics employed by airlines may qualify under different classifications depending on their credentials and the employer's specific needs. Each pathway requires the employer to initiate the petition process.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most mechanic sponsorship jobs?
Newark leads due to its proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport and the Port of Newark-Elizabeth, both of which require large maintenance workforces. Elizabeth and Linden host significant industrial and fleet service operations. Parsippany and Edison have active dealership and commercial vehicle service centers. The Route 1 and Route 9 corridors through central New Jersey also concentrate auto and truck repair employers.
How to find mechanic visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to find mechanic roles in New Jersey where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. You can narrow results by location and job type to focus on aviation, automotive, or diesel mechanic openings across the state. This removes the guesswork of identifying which employers are open to sponsoring international candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for mechanics seeking visa sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires mechanics working on motor vehicles to hold a state inspection license issued by the Motor Vehicle Commission for certain repair and inspection work. Employers sponsoring mechanics must meet prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor for the specific occupation and region. Aviation mechanics near Newark must hold FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificates regardless of immigration status, so credential verification is part of any sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanic jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
