Siri's evaluation signal drives every model and product decision before a release ships. The Developer Workflows team, part of Siri's Agentic Evaluation Engineering organization, builds and maintains the next generation of developer workflows that Apple's internal teams rely on to evaluate what they build. We are looking for a hands-on engineering leader to run this team in New York and set its technical direction.
Description
Evaluation at Apple's scale is an engineering problem, not a reporting problem. Our internal customers need to know whether a change worked while they can still act on it. This team builds the systems that make that possible, driving the development of the tooling, services, and automation that enable a developer to go from a question about quality to a verified fix.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will lead a small, senior team and remain deeply in the code and architecture.
Responsibilities
-
Lead, grow, and set technical direction for a team building developer-facing evaluation tooling, services, and automation.
-
Remain hands-on: own architecture, write and review code, and build critical components yourself.
-
Own your systems and solutions end to end - design, delivery, reliability, and the operational health our internal customers depend on.
-
Design durable services and data models that other teams build on.
-
Apply LLMs and agentic automation to real engineering workflows, keeping human review where judgment belongs to a person.
-
Establish measurement that distinguishes real improvement from noise, and hold quality bars that survive contact with customers.
-
Turn working systems into adopted platforms, so teams can onboard themselves without your team in the loop.
-
Partner across the evaluation organization and with engineering, quality, and design stakeholders to articulate and build roadmaps and critical solutions.
-
Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers including senior ICs, with a focus on engineering rigor and clear ownership.
Minimum Qualifications
-
8+ years of experience building production software (e.g., Python, Swift, Go, or Java), with recent hands-on delivery.
-
2+ years leading engineers, as an engineering manager or as a tech lead responsible for a team's technical direction and delivery.
-
Demonstrably hands-on today: you set architecture, write design documents, review code, and build.
-
Practical experience applying LLMs or AI agents to real engineering workflows.
-
Experience with developer tooling, test infrastructure, CI/CD, or evaluation and ML platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Depth in agentic systems with human-in-the-loop review, and the reliability, cost, and trust problems they raise in production.
-
Experience designing and operating distributed backend services and APIs in production.
-
Cloud infrastructure and container orchestration, data platforms, or large-scale test and release infrastructure.
-
Familiarity with Apple's development and testing toolchain, and with device automation.
-
A track record of driving internal adoption of a platform.
-
Demonstrated cross-functional leadership and the ability to drive quality decisions with senior stakeholders.
-
Experience hiring and growing a team, including senior engineers.
-
Excellent spoken and written communication skills, and comfort operating in ambiguity.

Which companies sponsor visas for engineering managers in New York?
Large tech and finance companies account for most engineering manager sponsorships in New York. Google, Amazon, Meta, and Spotify have significant engineering offices in Manhattan. Financial institutions including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg regularly sponsor engineering managers for their technology divisions. Enterprise software companies and well-funded startups in the NYC metro area also sponsor, though less consistently than established employers.
Which visa types are most common for engineering manager roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for engineering managers in New York, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field like computer science or engineering. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, which follows a similar process without a lottery. Candidates with extraordinary ability or sustained national or international acclaim may explore the O-1A. Intracompany transferees at multinational firms can use the L-1A, which is specifically designed for managers.
Which cities in New York have the most engineering manager sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan and Brooklyn, accounts for the overwhelming majority of engineering manager sponsorship positions in the state. The Flatiron District, Hudson Yards, and Midtown are dense with tech and finance engineering offices. Albany and Buffalo have smaller but growing tech sectors, primarily tied to state government contracts and university research commercialization, though sponsorship volume there is significantly lower than in NYC.
How to find engineering manager visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters engineering manager roles in New York by visa sponsorship availability, so you are not sorting through listings from employers who do not sponsor. The platform surfaces roles from companies with a documented history of H-1B and other visa filings, which is especially useful for engineering manager positions where sponsorship willingness varies widely even among large New York employers.
Are there state-specific considerations for engineering manager visa sponsorship in New York?
New York City's cost of living directly affects Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations, which employers must meet when sponsoring H-1B and E-3 visa petitions for engineering managers. NYC prevailing wages for management-level engineering roles are among the highest in the country, reflecting the local market. Employers filing Labor Condition Applications must attest they will pay at least the prevailing wage, so New York sponsorships typically require a strong compensation package compared to other states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering manager jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
