Which technology companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New York?
Large technology and financial technology employers in New York with consistent STEM OPT filing history include Google, Meta, Amazon Web Services, Bloomberg LP, Palantir Technologies, IBM, and JPMorgan Chase's technology division. Enterprise software firms, cybersecurity companies, and early-stage startups backed by major venture funds also sponsor regularly, though smaller employers may have less predictable timelines for extension paperwork.
Which cities in New York have the most technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the overwhelming share of technology STEM OPT sponsorship in the state, with Manhattan's Midtown and lower Manhattan tech hubs, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the Hudson Yards office corridor generating the most filings. Albany hosts state government technology contractors. Buffalo and Rochester have smaller but growing clusters tied to university research commercialization and advanced manufacturing software.
How do I find technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters technology roles in New York specifically for employers with verified STEM OPT sponsorship history, so you can search software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity openings without manually screening each employer. Searching by employer LCA filing history lets F-1 students identify companies that have sponsored STEM OPT extensions before, which is a strong signal of an established internal process for handling the 24-month extension.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in New York?
Roles that qualify must fall under a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code tied to the student's degree. In New York's technology sector, qualifying positions commonly include software engineer, data scientist, machine learning engineer, cybersecurity analyst, cloud infrastructure engineer, and quantitative analyst roles. The position itself must involve work directly related to the graduate's field of study, and the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in technology roles in New York?
New York State does not add its own visa sponsorship requirements on top of federal STEM OPT rules, but the state's strong labor protections mean employers must meet prevailing wage standards documented through DOL's OFLC process. New York City's competitive technology hiring market means STEM OPT students often compete against H-1B visa candidates, so roles at employers already enrolled in E-Verify and familiar with OPT timelines tend to move faster through the authorization process.
