What We Are Looking For
Distyl is looking for a People Operations Specialist to own the programs that keep our people supported and our company running well. People are the foundation of everything we're building — and this role is how we take care of that foundation as we scale.
You'll work across the full spectrum of People Operations — from employee lifecycle and compliance to immigration, benefits, and leave — and bring structure to areas that are still being defined. The ideal candidate is versatile and hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes genuine pride in building programs that make a difference for the people around them.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Lifecycle and Programs:
- Own the onboarding and offboarding experience — creating a seamless, welcoming journey from offer acceptance through Day 1 and beyond
- Maintain accurate employee data across our HRIS and people systems, and serve as a trusted resource for employee questions
- Partner across the People team on projects that improve the employee experience and scale our HR infrastructure
Immigration & Compliance:
- Partner with outside immigration counsel to guide employees through visa and work authorization processes
- Stay ahead of multi-state and federal compliance requirements as we grow
- Maintain process documentation and support internal audits to keep our programs well-governed
Benefits & Leave:
- Administer benefits programs and be the person employees trust to get them answers quickly
- Support employees through leave with care and consistency
- Partner with our benefits broker and vendors to run a smooth process
Who You Are
- 4+ years of experience in People Operations or a generalist HR role, and you've touched immigration, benefits, and leave
- Systems thinker — comfortable in an HRIS, disciplined about data, and always looking for a better process
- Working knowledge of employment law and know when to loop in the right people
- Communicate clearly, respond quickly, and make employees and stakeholders feel like they're in good hands
- Do your best work when the path isn't fully paved — you see ambiguity as an opportunity, not an obstacle
What We Offer
- The base salary range for this role is $90K – $150K, depending on experience, location, and level. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for meaningful equity, along with a comprehensive benefits package
- 100% covered medical, dental, and vision for employees and dependents
- 401(k) with additional perks (e.g., commuter benefits, in-office lunch)
- Access to state-of-the-art models, generous usage of modern AI tools, and real-world business problems
- Ownership of high-impact projects across top enterprises
- A mission-driven, fast-moving culture that prizes curiosity, pragmatism, and excellence
LOCATION
Distyl has offices in San Francisco and New York. This role follows a hybrid collaboration model with 3+ days per week (Tuesday–Thursday) in-office.

Which companies sponsor visas for operations specialists in New York?
Large employers with significant New York operations are among the most active sponsors for operations specialist roles. These include financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, and Goldman Sachs, logistics and e-commerce companies like Amazon and FedEx, healthcare organizations like NewYork-Presbyterian and Northwell Health, and technology firms operating in Manhattan and the surrounding metro area. Larger companies tend to have established immigration processes and dedicated HR teams.
Which visa types are most common for operations specialist roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for operations specialists in New York, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, supply chain management, or industrial engineering. Some candidates with advanced degrees may pursue an EB-2 immigrant visa. Intracompany transferees may qualify for an L-1B if moving within a multinational organization that has a New York office.
Which cities in New York have the most operations specialist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the overwhelming majority of operations specialist sponsorship jobs in the state, particularly in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island City where financial services, technology, and corporate headquarters are concentrated. Buffalo and Rochester have growing manufacturing and logistics operations that occasionally sponsor international candidates. Albany sees demand from state-affiliated organizations and healthcare systems, though the volume is lower than the New York City metro area.
How to find operations specialist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including operations specialist positions in New York. You can filter by state and role to see employers who have a documented history of sponsoring visas for operations functions. Focusing on companies with existing H-1B filing records in New York gives you a practical starting point for targeting your applications toward employers already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Are there any state-specific considerations for operations specialists seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York's high cost of living means prevailing wage requirements for H-1B sponsorship in the New York City metro area are among the highest in the country, which affects which employers can competitively sponsor international candidates. New York also has a dense university system, including NYU, Columbia, and Cornell, meaning OPT and STEM OPT holders with operations or supply chain backgrounds are common in the local talent pipeline, which can create competitive dynamics for visa-dependent applicants.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored operations specialist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
