Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in New York?
Large and mid-size architecture firms in New York with documented H-1B sponsorship histories include Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Gensler, KPF (Kohn Pedersen Fox), Perkins Eastman, and HOK. Developer-side employers and large construction management firms in New York City also sponsor project architects, particularly for complex mixed-use and commercial developments. Checking DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data confirms which firms have filed recently.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project architects in New York, as the role typically requires a professional degree in architecture, meeting the specialty occupation standard. The O-1A is an alternative for architects with significant awards, publications, or major project credits. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with architecture degrees. Each category has distinct eligibility requirements and employer filing obligations.
Which cities in New York have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the overwhelming majority of project architect sponsorship opportunities in the state, concentrated in Manhattan and Long Island City where large commercial, cultural, and residential projects are headquartered. Albany sees demand from state government and institutional work. Buffalo has a smaller but growing market tied to urban revitalization and healthcare campus development. Most international hires are concentrated in the New York City metro area.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters project architect jobs in New York specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can see which firms are actively hiring internationally without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate surfaces firms with recent H-1B and O-1 filing histories. Given how competitive New York City architecture hiring is, focusing your search on confirmed sponsoring employers saves significant time.
Are there state-specific considerations for project architects seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York requires architects to hold a state license issued by the State Education Department to use the title 'architect,' but candidates can work as project architects under a licensed supervisor while completing licensure requirements. New York City's high volume of complex, large-scale projects means employers often expect familiarity with NYC Department of Buildings permitting processes. Prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B filings, and New York's market rates are among the highest nationally, which affects LCA compliance.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
