Which companies sponsor visas for project architects in South Carolina?
South Carolina firms with a track record of sponsoring architecture roles include LS3P Associates, McMillan Pazdan Smith, and Gresham Smith, all of which maintain offices in Charleston, Columbia, or Greenville. Larger national firms with South Carolina project offices, such as HDR and Jacobs, also periodically sponsor project architects. Sponsorship activity tends to follow project volume, so firms active in healthcare and higher education construction are worth prioritizing.
Which visa types are most common for project architect roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project architects in South Carolina, as the role typically meets the specialty occupation standard given the professional licensure and degree requirements involved. Architects with a valid NCARB certificate or state licensure strengthen that case considerably. The O-1A is an option for architects with significant awards or published work, though it requires stronger documentation. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican architects under USMCA.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most project architect sponsorship jobs?
Charleston leads for project architect sponsorship activity, driven by historic preservation work, coastal development, and a growing healthcare construction market. Columbia, as the state capital, generates steady public-sector and university-related architecture work, particularly through projects tied to the University of South Carolina and state agencies. Greenville has expanded significantly as commercial and mixed-use development has accelerated in the Upstate region, attracting both regional and national firms.
How to find project architect visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for project architect roles in South Carolina without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because sponsoring firms in the state tend to cluster around specific project types, healthcare, higher education, and commercial development, filtering by South Carolina and reviewing which firms are actively posting gives you a clearer picture of where hiring is actually happening.
Are there state-specific considerations for project architects seeking visa sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina requires architectural licensure through the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, and employers sponsoring a project architect on an H-1B must file a Labor Condition Application certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Firms in smaller markets like Hilton Head or Spartanburg may have fewer sponsorship resources than larger Charleston or Columbia offices. Candidates with NCARB certification have an easier path to meeting the specialty occupation threshold, which is relevant to H-1B approval.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project architect jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
