Which companies sponsor visas for systems engineers in New York?
Financial institutions and technology firms lead sponsorship activity for systems engineers in New York. JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, IBM, Verizon, and L3Harris Technologies have all filed Labor Condition Applications for systems engineering roles in the state. Defense contractors with operations on Long Island, including Northrop Grumman and Leidos, also sponsor regularly. Enterprise software and cloud infrastructure companies in New York City round out the most active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for systems engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for systems engineers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Canadians and Mexicans may be eligible under the TN visa category, provided the role meets USMCA classification requirements for engineers.
Which cities in New York have the most systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of systems engineer sponsorship activity in the state, particularly in finance, telecommunications, and enterprise technology. Long Island is a significant hub for defense and aerospace systems engineering, driven by contractors based in Bethpage and Melville. How to find systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship jobs, including systems engineer roles in New York. You can filter by state and role to see employers that have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Because systems engineering spans defense, finance, and telecom in New York, filtering by industry alongside sponsorship history helps narrow results to employers most likely to support your application.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for systems engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
New York's prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B petitions, meaning employers must certify they are paying the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the specific systems engineer role and location. New York City wages are benchmarked separately from upstate regions, so the certified wage on your LCA will reflect where the work is physically performed. University pipelines from Cornell, Columbia, NYU Tandon, and RPI also create strong local talent networks that employers often draw from for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored systems engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
