Search Tax Associate Jobs in New YorkTax Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for tax associates in New York?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, are the most active sponsors for tax associate roles in New York. Mid-size firms such as Grant Thornton, BDO, and RSM also have established sponsorship histories in the state. Large financial services corporations with in-house tax departments, including major banks and investment firms headquartered in Manhattan, sponsor as well, though less frequently than the accounting firms.
Which visa types are most common for tax associate roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for tax associates in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a much shorter processing timeline. Canadian and Mexican nationals sometimes use the TN visa under the USMCA for qualifying accounting roles.
Which cities in New York have the most tax associate sponsorship jobs?
New York City, specifically Manhattan's Midtown and Financial District, accounts for the overwhelming majority of tax associate sponsorship opportunities in the state. The concentration of Big Four offices, financial institutions, and multinational corporations makes it the primary hiring hub. Albany has a smaller but active market tied to state government contracting and regional accounting firms. Buffalo and Rochester have limited sponsorship activity compared to New York City.
How to find tax associate visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles in the United States. You can filter directly by role and state to surface tax associate positions in New York from employers with documented sponsorship histories. This saves significant time compared to manually screening job postings. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on sponsorship-eligible opportunities, which is particularly useful in a competitive market like New York where not every posting is open to international candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for tax associates seeking sponsorship in New York?
New York requires H-1B employers to pay the prevailing wage as determined by the Department of Labor, which is assessed based on the specific job location, so Manhattan roles typically carry higher prevailing wage requirements than upstate positions. New York also has strong CPA licensure requirements, and international candidates should confirm their foreign academic credentials meet New York State Education Department equivalency standards for accounting roles, as this can affect both licensing eligibility and the strength of an H-1B specialty occupation petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax associate jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
