Search Tax Associate Jobs in TexasTax Associate Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for tax associates in Texas?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and EY, are the most active sponsors for tax associate roles in Texas, particularly in Dallas and Houston. Regional firms like Grant Thornton and RSM also sponsor in Texas. Large corporate in-house tax departments at energy companies such as ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips occasionally hire tax associates with sponsorship as well.
Which visa types are most common for tax associate roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for tax associates in Texas, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. F-1 graduates on OPT or STEM OPT often work as tax associates before their employer files an H-1B petition. CPAs and those with advanced degrees may also qualify for H-1B cap-exempt filings through certain employers.
Which cities in Texas have the most tax associate sponsorship jobs?
Dallas and its surrounding metro, including Fort Worth and Plano, account for the largest share of tax associate sponsorship jobs in Texas, driven by a dense concentration of Big Four offices and corporate headquarters. Houston is a close second, particularly for energy sector tax roles. Austin has grown significantly as technology and financial services companies have expanded there, creating additional openings for tax professionals seeking sponsorship.
How to find tax associate visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for tax associate roles in Texas without sorting through positions that do not offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by city, firm type, or visa category. This is especially useful in Texas, where sponsorship availability varies significantly between the Big Four, mid-size regional firms, and corporate in-house tax departments.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for tax associates seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how prevailing wage benchmarks compare to states like New York or California, and DOL prevailing wage determinations for tax associates in Texas reflect the local market. Texas also has strong university pipelines through UT Austin, Texas A&M, and SMU that feed Big Four recruiting programs, meaning sponsored candidates are often competing alongside a large domestic applicant pool in these firms' structured associate hiring cycles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax associate jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
