Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in North Carolina?
Large employers with consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories in North Carolina include ABB, Siemens, Duke Energy, Wolfspeed, and Ericsson. Defense contractors such as BAE Systems and L3Harris also hire electrical engineers in the state. Semiconductor and power electronics firms concentrated around Research Triangle Park account for a significant share of sponsorship filings in this field.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical engineers in North Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability. Canadians and Mexicans may also qualify under the TN visa category, which covers engineers without requiring a separate petition.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and the broader Research Triangle Park area, which includes Durham and Cary, generate the highest volume of electrical engineering sponsorship activity due to the concentration of semiconductor, cleantech, and tech employers. Charlotte follows closely, driven by energy sector employers and advanced manufacturing. Fayetteville and Greensboro also see activity tied to defense electronics and industrial manufacturing operations.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search electrical engineer roles in North Carolina without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces roles from employers with active H-1B filing histories in the state, which is particularly useful for targeting companies in the Research Triangle Park semiconductor corridor or Charlotte's energy sector.
Are there any state-specific considerations for electrical engineers seeking visa sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's growing semiconductor industry, anchored by Wolfspeed's silicon carbide chip operations in Durham and a broader cluster of chip-adjacent suppliers, has increased demand for power electronics and device engineering specialists. NC State University and Duke University produce graduate-level electrical engineers who enter the same talent pool, so international candidates with specialized skills in power systems, RF engineering, or embedded systems tend to stand out most.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
