About the team
Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces.
We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products.
Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful.
At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build.
If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
-
10+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
-
4+ years of motor controls (motor starts, variable frequency drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components) experience
-
Experience developing products for large volume production
-
Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
-
Strong PCB design and layout skills (Altium, KiCad, or similar) with an understanding of high-power circuits, signal integrity, and thermal constraints
-
Experience with lithium-ion battery systems, BMS hardware/software, and power distribution architectures
-
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and motor test benches
-
Proficiency with embedded system interfaces (FDCAN, SPI, I2C, RS485, USB) and experience working with STM32 microcontrollers
-
Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and compliance standards for industrial or robotics systems
-
Experience working in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other real-time electromechanical systems

Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in New York?
Consolidated Edison, National Grid, Northrop Grumman, IBM, and Lockheed Martin are among the employers with consistent records of sponsoring electrical engineers in New York. Semiconductor and defense firms on Long Island, along with utility companies serving the broader metro area, account for a significant share of sponsorship activity. Financial institutions and tech firms in New York City also hire electrical engineers for infrastructure and hardware roles.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical engineers in New York, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Employers with existing international workforces also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers and the O-1A for engineers with exceptional achievements. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and Canadian and Mexican nationals can explore the TN visa under the USMCA.
Which cities in New York have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
New York City generates the largest volume of electrical engineering sponsorship opportunities, particularly in Manhattan and Brooklyn where tech, finance, and infrastructure firms concentrate. Long Island, including Melville and Bethpage, is a hub for defense and aerospace employers. Albany and the broader Capital Region attract engineers through utilities, state government contractors, and semiconductor manufacturing tied to the growing chip industry in upstate New York.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters electrical engineer jobs in New York by visa sponsorship availability, so you are not sorting through roles that do not apply to your situation. The platform covers opportunities across New York City, Long Island, and upstate markets, including positions with utilities, defense contractors, and semiconductor employers that actively hire internationally.
Are there state-specific factors electrical engineers should know when pursuing sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program are particularly relevant in the New York City metro area, where Department of Labor wage levels for electrical engineers tend to be higher than national averages, reflecting the cost of living. The state's expanding semiconductor sector, following federal investment in upstate facilities, is creating new sponsorship demand from employers who may not have historically recruited internationally. Engineering roles tied to New York City's utility infrastructure are also subject to specific licensing requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
