Which companies sponsor visas for electrical engineers in Ohio?
Several large Ohio-based employers have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for electrical engineers, including FirstEnergy and AEP in the utility sector, Honda's engineering operations in Marysville and East Liberty, Lockheed Martin and L3Harris in the defense space, and Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. Larger manufacturers like Procter and Gamble and Eaton also file regularly for electrical engineering roles across the state.
Which visa types are most common for electrical engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical engineers in Ohio, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying engineering roles can explore the TN visa. O-1 visa is an option for engineers with recognized accomplishments in the field.
Which cities in Ohio have the most electrical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus has the highest concentration of sponsorship activity, driven by defense contractors, research institutions like Battelle, and a growing tech sector. Cleveland is a strong market for power systems and utilities work, particularly around FirstEnergy and related suppliers. Dayton has notable demand tied to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and its surrounding aerospace and defense supply chain. Cincinnati also sees consistent hiring through manufacturers and engineering firms.
How to find electrical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse electrical engineer roles in Ohio without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform covers openings across utilities, defense, automotive, and manufacturing sectors in cities like Columbus, Cleveland, and Dayton, making it easier to focus your search on employers with an active sponsorship history in electrical engineering.
Are there state-specific factors electrical engineers should know about sponsoring in Ohio?
Ohio's strong university pipeline from institutions like Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Dayton means employers are accustomed to hiring internationally trained engineers, which can smooth the sponsorship conversation. The state's concentration in power systems and defense also means many roles fall under federal contracting environments, where employers tend to have established immigration processes. Prevailing wage requirements still apply, and wages are set by DOL based on the specific location and role level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
