Packaging Design Engineer

The Packaging Design Engineer will work on a team of packaging engineers and technicians to design and develop protective packaging solutions for prospective and existing Sealed Air customers. The role will work cross-functionally with sales teams to consultatively solve critical customer packaging challenges, by recommending, designing, and sampling packaging solutions.
The role is located in Charlotte, NC and is expected to be in the office Monday through Thursday with the flexibility to be remote on Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Design engineered packaging solutions using CAD and digital technologies
- Collaborate with our commercial teams, business partners, and clients, to diagnose packaging problems and implement improved solutions and cost savings
- Collaborate cross functionally with marketing and R&D to find optimal solutions for a variety of products
- Analyze data to identify trends, determine root causes of performance gaps, and recommend actionable solutions
- Develop innovative and patentable packaging solutions
- Perform integrity tests using ISTA, ASTM and other industry related protocols
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging, Engineering, or Industrial Design
- Experience with mechanical CAD systems (specific experience with Rhino, Artios CAD and SolidWorks is not required but would be a plus)
- Good mechanical aptitude and strong ability to visualize in three dimensions
- Experience with wood working equipment
- Able to design, fabricate and test packaging for Sealed Air customers
- Experience with CNC programming
- Able to work with database systems to prioritize and organize heavy loads of design projects
- Professional, ambitious, independent, enthusiastic, and possessing a positive attitude
- Able to handle multiple simultaneous projects in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
- Ability to clearly communicate with other engineers, designers, mold-makers, sales teams, and customers
- Perform International Safe Transit Association package integrity tests
- Travel as necessary to support the sales organization… some travel may require flights and multi-night stays
- Strong communication skills building engineer-to-engineer relationships with new and existing customers
- Ability to communicate clearly and think strategically in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
- Strong organizational skills to aid in driving processes and projects
- Innovative and R&D driven mindset to find best practices for packaging, quality control, and product design
- Ability to identify performance problems and leverage appropriate technical expertise to craft appropriate solutions
Pay Transparency:
Compensation: $57,100 - $98,325
The range disclosed complies with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Offers within this range will be determined by considering relevant factors including education, experience, and internal alignment. This position may also be eligible for annual performance bonuses and other incentive programs.
