Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in North Carolina?
The largest sponsors for registered nurse roles in North Carolina are Duke University Health System, UNC Health, Novant Health, Atrium Health, and WakeMed. These health systems operate multiple hospitals and outpatient facilities across the state and have documented histories of filing H-1B visa and EB-3 petitions for internationally trained nurses. Smaller regional hospitals and long-term care facilities also sponsor, though less consistently.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in North Carolina?
The EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in North Carolina, as it directly supports skilled workers and professionals including RNs. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa applies when the nursing role meets specialty occupation criteria, which requires a specific degree requirement tied to the position. Some nurses also enter through TN visa status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte and the Research Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) concentrate the most registered nurse sponsorship activity in North Carolina. Charlotte's large hospital networks, including Atrium Health and Novant Health, drive volume in the western region. The Triangle benefits from proximity to Duke Health, UNC Health, and WakeMed, which are consistently among the state's top healthcare employers seeking international nursing talent.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters registered nurse job listings in North Carolina specifically to roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through hundreds of positions that won't consider international candidates. You can search by city, specialty, or health system to narrow results. Migrate Mate is built for international job seekers, so the platform surfaces employer sponsorship signals that general job boards don't prioritize.
Are there any state-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina requires all registered nurses to hold a valid license issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. International nurses educated outside the U.S. typically need a credential evaluation through CGFNS or a similar body before the state board will process their application. Passing the NCLEX-RN is also required regardless of where you trained. Employers generally expect these steps to be completed or in progress before extending a sponsored offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
