Which companies sponsor visas for software QA engineers in Ohio?
Large employers with established immigration programs are your strongest bet in Ohio. Companies like JPMorgan Chase, Nationwide Insurance, Progressive, Huntington Bancshares, and NCR Voyix have histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for technical roles including software QA. Mid-size software firms in Columbus and Cincinnati also sponsor, though less consistently. Checking a company's past H-1B filings through the Department of Labor's public disclosure data can help you identify active sponsors before applying.
Which visa types are most common for software QA engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software QA engineers in Ohio, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some candidates enter through OPT or STEM OPT first, then transition to H-1B. The L-1B visa applies if you're transferring within a multinational company. TN visas are an option specifically for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software QA engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is Ohio's primary tech hiring hub, driven by its concentration of financial services firms, insurance companies, and a growing startup ecosystem around the Short North and Easton corridors. Cleveland has sponsoring employers in healthcare IT and manufacturing technology sectors, including companies connected to the Cleveland Clinic health system. Cincinnati sees demand from large consumer goods and financial firms. Dublin and Westerville, suburbs of Columbus, also host significant corporate tech campuses with active hiring.
How to find software qa engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, making it more targeted than general job search tools for software QA engineer roles in Ohio. You can filter directly for Ohio-based QA positions at employers with sponsorship histories. Beyond Migrate Mate, reviewing Department of Labor LCA disclosure data lets you verify which Ohio employers have recently filed labor condition applications for software QA or related titles before you invest time in an application.
Are there state-specific considerations for software QA engineers pursuing visa sponsorship in Ohio?
Ohio's cost of living relative to coastal tech hubs means prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are generally lower in absolute terms, which can make sponsorship more accessible for smaller Ohio employers who might not sponsor in higher-wage markets. Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati produce significant pipelines of engineering graduates, and many employers in those cities have established OPT-to-H-1B pathways. QA engineers with experience in financial services or healthcare IT align well with Ohio's dominant industries.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software qa engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
