Which companies sponsor visas for software quality engineers in Ohio?
Several large Ohio employers have sponsored H-1B visas for software quality engineers in recent years, including Nationwide Insurance, Progressive, Philips North America, JPMorgan Chase (Columbus operations), and Kroger Technology. Defense and aerospace contractors near Dayton, such as Leidos and SAIC, have also filed sponsorships for quality engineering roles, though sponsorship availability varies by team, budget cycle, and open headcount.
Which visa types are most common for software quality engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software quality engineers in Ohio, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some candidates also enter through OPT or STEM OPT extensions before employer-sponsored H-1B filing. L-1B transfers apply for intracompany moves within multinationals like Philips that have Ohio offices.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software quality engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is the strongest market for sponsored software quality engineer positions, driven by its large financial services and insurance tech sector, along with a growing startup base around the Short North and Easton corridors. Cleveland follows, with healthcare IT employers like Cleveland Clinic and Hyland Software active in the quality engineering space. Cincinnati offers opportunities through Kroger Technology and several manufacturing-adjacent software firms.
How to find software quality engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse software quality engineer roles in Ohio without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Search by state and role to surface active openings from employers who have indicated they sponsor work visas. This saves significant time compared to manually checking individual employer career pages across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for software quality engineers seeking sponsorship?
Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati produce strong pipelines of engineering graduates, which means local employers are accustomed to OPT and STEM OPT candidates before H-1B sponsorship. The state's concentration of insurance and financial services firms means many sponsoring employers are larger, regulated companies with established immigration compliance processes, rather than early-stage startups that may lack sponsorship infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software quality engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
