Which companies sponsor visas for engineering interns in Oklahoma?
Energy companies are the most active sponsors for engineering interns in Oklahoma. Devon Energy, Phillips 66, and ONEOK regularly hire petroleum, mechanical, and chemical engineering interns in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Aerospace employers like Spirit AeroSystems and L3Harris also sponsor interns in Tulsa. Defense contractors with Oklahoma operations, including Boeing and Raytheon, have sponsored engineering intern roles as well.
Which visa types are most common for engineering intern roles in Oklahoma?
Most international engineering interns in Oklahoma work under F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to work for qualifying employers without a separate visa petition. For interns who convert to full-time roles, the H-1B is the most common next step. J-1 intern and trainee programs are another pathway used by some Oklahoma employers, particularly for structured internship programs.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most engineering intern sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City and Tulsa account for the overwhelming majority of engineering intern sponsorship opportunities in the state. Oklahoma City is the center of Oklahoma's oil and gas industry, with headquarters for Devon Energy, Chesapeake Energy, and others. Tulsa has a strong aerospace and manufacturing base, anchored by Spirit AeroSystems and NORDAM. Stillwater and Norman see smaller volumes tied to university research programs at OSU and OU respectively.
How to find engineering intern visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters engineering intern job listings specifically to employers who have a documented history of visa sponsorship, saving international students the time of screening out roles that won't work for them. For Oklahoma, search by state and filter to engineering intern titles on Migrate Mate to surface roles at energy, aerospace, and manufacturing companies in Oklahoma City and Tulsa that are relevant to F-1 OPT, CPT, or H-1B candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for engineering interns seeking sponsorship in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's engineering intern market is heavily tied to energy sector cycles, so hiring volumes can shift with oil and gas prices. International students at the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University are well-positioned through on-campus career fairs that attract the state's major energy and aerospace employers directly. CPT eligibility requires enrollment at a qualifying institution, so coordinating with your international student office early in the semester is important before accepting any offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering intern jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
