Which companies sponsor visas for software architects in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's largest technology employer and has a strong history of sponsoring H-1B visas for senior engineering roles, including software architects, at its Hillsboro campus. Nike and Adidas sponsor technical roles from their Portland-area headquarters. Smaller software companies in Portland's Pearl District and the broader metro area also file H-1B petitions regularly, particularly for senior-level architects leading platform or infrastructure work.
Which visa types are most common for software architect roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software architects in Oregon, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA-successor agreement. Senior architects with exceptional credentials sometimes pursue the O-1A as an alternative to the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in Oregon have the most software architect sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the large majority of software architect sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of established tech employers, digital agencies, and software startups. Hillsboro, just west of Portland, is a significant secondary hub due to Intel's extensive campus there. Eugene has a smaller but emerging tech presence connected to the University of Oregon, though sponsorship opportunities there are more limited compared to the Portland metro area.
How to find software architect visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate lists software architect roles in Oregon filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify which employers are actively hiring international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer size and internal policy, filtering by verified sponsoring companies saves considerable time. Searching Migrate Mate by role and state gives you a current view of the Oregon market without sorting through postings from employers who don't sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for software architects pursuing sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon does not have state-level visa sponsorship programs, so all sponsorship flows through federal categories like the H-1B. One practical consideration is Oregon's strong university pipeline: Oregon State University and Portland State University produce engineering graduates who compete for the same roles, which affects how employers size their recruiting budgets. Intel's Hillsboro operations also mean that semiconductor and hardware-adjacent software architecture roles are more prominent here than in most other states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software architect jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
