Which companies sponsor visas for staff software engineers in Oregon?
Intel is one of Oregon's largest H-1B visa sponsors, operating significant engineering facilities in Hillsboro. Nike's global technology division in Beaverton regularly sponsors senior engineers. Other consistent sponsors include Adidas North America, Daimler Trucks North America, and Portland-based software companies like Vacasa and Jama Software. Larger firms tend to have established immigration infrastructure and sponsor at the staff engineer level more predictably than smaller startups.
Which visa types are most common for staff software engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for staff software engineers in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT often transition into H-1B sponsorship. L-1A and L-1B visas apply to intracompany transferees joining Oregon offices of multinational firms like Intel or Nike.
Which cities in Oregon have the most staff software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Oregon's primary market for staff software engineer sponsorship, home to the headquarters of major tech employers and a dense startup ecosystem. Hillsboro, roughly 15 miles west, is Intel's primary Oregon campus and one of the state's highest concentrations of sponsored engineering roles. Beaverton, home to Nike's world headquarters, is another significant hub. Smaller markets like Eugene and Bend have fewer sponsorship-eligible positions at the staff engineer level.
How to find staff software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search staff software engineer roles in Oregon without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces openings from companies with a documented history of H-1B and other visa filings, which matters at the staff engineer level where sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer size and industry vertical.
Are there any Oregon-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for staff software engineers?
Oregon's prevailing wage determinations for staff software engineers in the Portland-Hillsboro metropolitan area are set by the Department of Labor and reflect regional compensation norms, which employers must meet to satisfy H-1B Labor Condition Application requirements. Oregon State University and University of Oregon produce engineering graduates who often enter the OPT-to-H-1B pipeline, and Intel's large presence means the state has a relatively mature sponsorship ecosystem compared to smaller tech markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored staff software engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
