Which technology companies sponsor H-2B visas in South Carolina?
Technology and IT services companies in South Carolina's Greenville-Spartanburg metro, the Columbia technology corridor, and the Charleston tech sector have filed H-2B visa petitions for temporary technical workers. Employers in IT infrastructure support, network operations, and software implementation services are among those with documented H-2B sponsorship activity. Multinational manufacturers with large technology operations, such as those in the Upstate South Carolina region, also appear in DOL disclosure data.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most technology H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg in Upstate South Carolina have the highest concentration of technology H-2B activity, driven by the region's advanced manufacturing and IT services sectors. Columbia, as the state capital and home to large government technology contractors, also shows sponsorship activity. Charleston's growing technology and defense technology sector has produced H-2B filings as well, particularly for temporary IT support and systems roles.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B applies to temporary, non-agricultural positions, so qualifying technology roles are those with a defined temporary need, such as project-based IT implementation, seasonal network support, or time-limited systems integration work. Roles like IT field technician, network operations support, and hardware installation specialist are more commonly associated with H-2B than open-ended software engineering positions. The employer must demonstrate the need is genuinely temporary under DOL standards.
How do I find technology H-2B sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate aggregates H-2B sponsorship jobs in South Carolina's technology sector, drawing on DOL Labor Condition Application filing data to surface employers with verified sponsorship history. You can filter by state and visa type to focus specifically on South Carolina technology roles. Reviewing OFLC Wage Search records for South Carolina H-2B technology filings can also help identify which employers have petitioned for workers in technical occupations in recent years.
Are there state-specific considerations for H-2B technology sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina does not have a state-level visa sponsorship program, so H-2B sponsorship follows federal DOL and USCIS rules entirely. One practical consideration is that South Carolina's technology sector skews toward manufacturing-adjacent IT roles, meaning many H-2B technology openings are tied to production support cycles rather than traditional software development calendars. Employers must obtain a temporary labor certification from DOL before filing with USCIS, and the annual H-2B cap applies regardless of state.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B technology jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
