Which companies sponsor visas for security engineers in South Carolina?
Defense contractors with a presence near Joint Base Charleston, including Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and Leidos, have historically filed H-1B visa petitions for security engineering roles. Financial technology companies in Greenville and Columbia also sponsor, as do large healthcare systems with dedicated cybersecurity teams. Sponsorship willingness varies by contract type and security clearance requirements, so researching each employer's past filings is worthwhile.
Which visa types are most common for security engineer roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for security engineers in South Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. Candidates already holding an L-1B intracompany transfer visa or an O-1A for extraordinary ability may also find relevant employers. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most security engineer sponsorship jobs?
Charleston leads the state for security engineer sponsorship activity, driven by its large defense and federal contracting sector around Joint Base Charleston. Columbia, as the state capital and home to the University of South Carolina, supports a steady base of government-adjacent and healthcare cybersecurity roles. Greenville has a growing technology and manufacturing corridor where security engineering positions are increasingly common, particularly in operational technology and industrial cybersecurity.
How to find security engineer visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse security engineer positions in South Carolina without manually screening each posting. You can filter by location to focus on Charleston, Columbia, or Greenville. Because defense-adjacent roles sometimes require security clearances that complicate sponsorship, Migrate Mate's listings help you identify employers whose sponsorship history aligns with your eligibility.
Are there state-specific considerations for security engineers seeking visa sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's significant defense contracting presence means some security engineer roles require U.S. security clearances, which are generally not accessible to foreign nationals on temporary work visas. This narrows the sponsorship-eligible pool to positions at commercial employers, financial institutions, and healthcare organizations. The University of South Carolina and Clemson University also produce cybersecurity graduates and maintain industry partnerships that occasionally generate sponsorship-eligible openings for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored security engineer jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
