Which companies sponsor visas for security engineers in Pennsylvania?
Several large Pennsylvania employers have a consistent history of sponsoring work visas for security engineers. Comcast, IBM, and UPMC are among the most active, along with financial institutions headquartered in Philadelphia such as Vanguard and Lincoln Financial. Defense contractors and government-adjacent technology firms in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh corridors also file sponsorships regularly, particularly for roles requiring cloud security, network security, and application security expertise.
Which visa types are most common for security engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa type for security engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. Employers in the state also sponsor L-1B visas for internal transfers with specialized security knowledge. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may pursue the TN visa under the 'Computer Systems Analyst' or 'Engineer' category depending on their specific role.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most security engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the large majority of security engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia's concentration of financial services firms, healthcare networks, and large enterprises drives consistent demand. Pittsburgh has grown significantly as a technology hub, with cybersecurity roles tied to Carnegie Mellon's research ecosystem and companies like Google and Booz Allen Hamilton maintaining a presence there. Smaller clusters exist in Harrisburg and King of Prussia around government contracting and enterprise IT.
How to find security engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and filters job listings by role and state so you can search directly for security engineer positions in Pennsylvania. Rather than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship availability is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with verified sponsorship histories. This saves significant time for candidates on tight visa timelines, such as those on OPT or in the H-1B cap cycle.
Are there any state-specific or role-specific factors security engineers should know about Pennsylvania sponsorship?
Pennsylvania has a notable concentration of healthcare and financial services employers, both of which face heightened security compliance requirements under HIPAA and financial regulations, making security engineers particularly valuable in these sectors. Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute in Pittsburgh creates a strong local talent pipeline and research partnership ecosystem that employers actively recruit from. Candidates should also be aware that defense-adjacent roles in Pennsylvania may require security clearances, which can complicate or extend sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored security engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
