Which companies sponsor visas for occupational therapists in Tennessee?
The largest sponsors in Tennessee are major health systems: Vanderbilt University Medical Center, HCA Healthcare (headquartered in Nashville), Encompass Health, and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Pediatric-focused employers such as Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and Vanderbilt Children's Hospital also sponsor international OTs. Skilled nursing and rehabilitation networks operating across rural Tennessee counties represent another consistent source of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for occupational therapist roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Tennessee, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a master's degree under current AOTA standards. The EB-3 employment-based green card is a frequent long-term pathway, and some health system employers use the EB-3 Schedule A designation, which allows skipping the PERM labor certification step because OT is a nationally designated shortage occupation.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most occupational therapist sponsorship jobs?
Nashville is the clear leader, driven by its concentration of hospital systems, rehabilitation centers, and outpatient clinics. Memphis is the second major hub, with strong demand across acute care and pediatric settings. Knoxville and Chattanooga each have growing healthcare sectors with sponsoring employers. The Tri-Cities area (Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol) sees consistent demand through Ballad Health, which serves a broad regional patient population.
How to find occupational therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles with visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse occupational therapist openings across Tennessee without sifting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can narrow results by city or setting, which is useful given how differently Nashville, Memphis, and rural Tennessee markets behave. Creating a profile also helps employers find you directly.
Are there any state-specific considerations for international occupational therapists hiring in Tennessee?
International OTs must obtain Tennessee licensure through the Tennessee Board of Occupational Therapy before practicing. This requires passing the NBCOT certification exam and providing credential verification. Employers typically initiate sponsorship only after confirming licensure eligibility, so starting the NBCOT and Tennessee Board process early is important. Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which is a practical financial consideration for internationally recruited OTs comparing offer locations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored occupational therapist jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
