Which companies sponsor visas for occupational therapists in New Mexico?
Presbyterian Healthcare Services and Lovelace Health System in Albuquerque are among the more active sponsors for occupational therapists in New Mexico. Rehabilitation-focused employers, including outpatient clinics and long-term care facilities, also file sponsorship petitions. Indian Health Service facilities serving tribal communities across the state represent another notable source of sponsored OT positions, particularly in rural areas.
Which visa types are most common for occupational therapist roles in New Mexico?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in New Mexico, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a master's degree. Some employers also use the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway for direct green card sponsorship. Internationally trained OTs must hold a current New Mexico state license and pass the NBCOT exam before any employer can complete sponsorship.
Which cities in New Mexico have the most occupational therapist sponsorship jobs?
Albuquerque accounts for the majority of occupational therapist sponsorship opportunities in New Mexico, given its concentration of hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and outpatient clinics. Santa Fe has a smaller but consistent market, particularly in pediatric and mental health settings. Smaller cities like Las Cruces and Farmington see periodic openings, often tied to Indian Health Service or federally qualified health center hiring.
How to find occupational therapist visa sponsorship jobs in New Mexico?
Migrate Mate lists occupational therapist roles in New Mexico filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, saving you from manually screening employers. Because sponsorship willingness varies by facility and budget cycle, filtering by confirmed sponsors matters. On Migrate Mate, you can narrow results to New Mexico OT roles and review which health systems and rehabilitation employers are actively hiring internationally trained therapists.
Are there state-specific considerations for occupational therapists seeking sponsorship in New Mexico?
New Mexico has a documented shortage of occupational therapists in rural and tribal areas, which increases employer motivation to sponsor internationally trained OTs. The University of New Mexico's OT program creates some local graduate supply, but demand consistently outpaces it. International applicants must verify their credentials through NBCOT and apply for New Mexico licensure through the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department before starting employment.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored occupational therapist jobs in New Mexico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
