Which companies sponsor visas for social workers in Tennessee?
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Tennessee Department of Children's Services, Saint Thomas Health, and Centerstone are among the Tennessee employers that have sponsored international social workers. Large hospital systems and federally funded nonprofits are the most consistent sponsors because they have dedicated HR infrastructure for immigration filings and documented workforce shortages in licensed clinical roles.
Which visa types are most common for social work roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for licensed clinical social workers, as roles requiring a Master of Social Work and state licensure generally meet the specialty occupation standard. Some positions at nonprofits or academic medical centers may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing. EB-3 immigrant visas are also used when employers pursue permanent sponsorship for experienced clinical staff.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most social work sponsorship jobs?
Nashville concentrates the most opportunities, driven by its large hospital systems, state government agencies, and growing nonprofit sector. Memphis follows closely with strong demand through Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, and community mental health organizations. Knoxville and Chattanooga offer additional openings, particularly through university-affiliated clinics and regional behavioral health networks.
How to find social work visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?

You can search by role type and location to surface clinical social worker, case manager, and behavioral health openings at Tennessee health systems, state agencies, and nonprofits that have active sponsorship capacity.
Are there state-specific considerations for social work visa sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee requires a state-issued license to practice as a clinical social worker, so international candidates should confirm their degree credentials are recognized by the Tennessee Board of Social Worker Licensure and Certification before pursuing sponsorship. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay the prevailing wage for the specific role and county, which the Department of Labor determines and which varies between urban and rural parts of the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored social work jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
