Which companies sponsor visas for social workers in Oregon?
Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), Providence Health and Services, Legacy Health, and PeaceHealth are among the larger healthcare employers in Oregon that have sponsored visas for clinical social workers. County behavioral health departments, including Multnomah County SUN Service System and Clackamas County Behavioral Health, also hire international candidates, though sponsorship decisions vary by role, funding source, and staffing need.
Which visa types are most common for social work roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed clinical social workers and medical social workers in Oregon, as these roles typically require a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and meet the specialty occupation standard. Some positions at nonprofit or government-affiliated agencies may qualify for the EB-3 green card pathway. J-1 exchange visitor visas are also used for social work trainees or researchers placed through accredited programs.
Which cities in Oregon have the most social work sponsorship jobs?
Portland has the highest concentration of social work sponsorship opportunities in Oregon, driven by its major hospital systems, county health agencies, and a dense nonprofit sector. Salem, as the state capital, has openings through Oregon state agencies and mid-Willamette Valley health providers. Eugene, home to the University of Oregon, supports demand through academic medical and community mental health settings. Bend is a smaller but growing market tied to St. Charles Health System.
How to find social work visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find social work visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon, as the platform filters specifically for roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. Search using social work as your role and Oregon as your location to surface relevant openings at health systems, county agencies, and nonprofits. Filtering by visa type helps narrow results to positions compatible with H-1B or other nonimmigrant categories.
Are there state-specific considerations for international social workers seeking licensure and sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon requires Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) to hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and complete supervised post-graduate hours before full licensure, which can affect visa timing. International candidates should confirm with the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers whether their foreign degree meets equivalency standards before beginning a job search. Some employers sponsor candidates before full licensure but require completion within a defined period, so clarifying this expectation during hiring is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored social work jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
