Which companies sponsor visas for field engineers in Texas?
Several large employers in Texas have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for field engineers. In Houston's energy sector, Halliburton, Schlumberger (SLB), and Baker Hughes regularly sponsor qualified candidates. In Dallas-Fort Worth, Ericsson and Nokia sponsor field engineers for telecom infrastructure roles. Defense contractors like Raytheon and L3Harris sponsor in the San Antonio and Dallas corridors. Sponsorship availability and timelines vary by employer, role, and fiscal year.
Which visa types are most common for field engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for field engineers in Texas, particularly for roles requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related specialty field. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations under the USMCA agreement. O-1A visas are an option for field engineers with documented extraordinary ability, though these are less common in standard field roles.
Which cities in Texas have the most field engineer sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads for field engineer sponsorship jobs due to its concentration of oil and gas, energy services, and petrochemical companies. Dallas-Fort Worth is the second-largest market, driven by telecom infrastructure, semiconductor, and enterprise technology employers. Austin's growing tech sector also produces field engineer openings, particularly in hardware and networking. San Antonio has a smaller but active market tied to defense and cybersecurity contractors.
How to find field engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters field engineer jobs by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sorting through postings that don't apply to your situation. For Texas, focus your search on Houston for energy and oilfield roles, Dallas-Fort Worth for telecom and tech, and San Antonio for defense-sector positions. Filtering by verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to general job searches.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for field engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how prevailing wage determinations compare to states with high income taxes, though the H-1B prevailing wage is set at the federal level based on the specific metropolitan area and occupation code. Houston's energy industry follows oilfield cycles, so hiring demand for field engineers can shift with commodity prices. Candidates with engineering degrees from Texas A&M, University of Texas, or Rice University may find stronger employer familiarity with their credentials.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored field engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
