Which companies sponsor visas for project assistants in Texas?
Engineering and energy firms are among the most active sponsors for project assistant roles in Texas. Companies such as Bechtel, Fluor, and Burns & McDonnell have a significant presence in Houston and Dallas and regularly sponsor H-1B workers in project support functions. Large technology contractors operating in Austin, along with state agencies managing infrastructure projects, also appear in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for this role category.
Which visa types are most common for project assistant roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for project assistant positions in Texas, particularly when the role requires a degree in engineering, construction management, or information systems. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose qualifications align with a recognized TN category. Some candidates on F-1 OPT, especially those from Texas engineering programs, also enter project assistant roles before transitioning to employer-sponsored status.
How to find project assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is a dedicated job board where you can filter specifically for project assistant roles in Texas that include visa sponsorship. Because sponsorship willingness is not always stated in standard job postings, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with documented sponsorship histories, saving significant research time. Focusing your search on Houston's energy corridor, Dallas-Fort Worth's construction sector, and Austin's technology contractors will give you the strongest pool of relevant opportunities.
Which cities in Texas have the most project assistant sponsorship jobs?
Houston generates the highest volume of project assistant sponsorship activity in Texas, driven by its concentration of energy, petrochemical, and large-scale infrastructure employers. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with demand coming from commercial construction, consulting, and corporate project management offices. Austin has grown substantially as a technology and semiconductor hub, creating project assistant openings at firms managing complex build-outs and product development programs.
Are there state-specific factors that affect project assistant sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since federal prevailing wage determinations are based on the metropolitan statistical area rather than state tax treatment. The state's concentration of oil, gas, and large infrastructure projects creates demand for project assistants with technical degree backgrounds, which strengthens H-1B specialty occupation eligibility. Texas also has several large engineering programs at UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice University that feed directly into sponsored project assistant pipelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project assistant jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
