Which companies sponsor visas for project assistants in South Carolina?
Boeing's North Charleston facility, Michelin's Greenville-area headquarters, Volvo Cars in Berkeley County, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston are among the employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories. Large engineering and construction firms operating in the state, including those supporting port expansion and manufacturing growth, also regularly sponsor project-support roles.
Which visa types are most common for project assistant roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project assistant positions that require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as engineering, information systems, or business administration. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a specific degree is a genuine requirement for the position. OPT and STEM OPT are also common entry points for recent graduates already in the U.S.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most project assistant sponsorship jobs?
Charleston leads due to its aerospace and port-driven industries, anchored by Boeing and significant logistics infrastructure. Columbia follows, supported by state government contractors, healthcare systems, and the University of South Carolina's research activity. Greenville and the Upstate region have grown substantially as European manufacturers including Michelin and BMW have expanded operations and built out project management functions.
How to find project assistant visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify project assistant openings in South Carolina without sifting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location and role type to focus on Charleston, Columbia, or Greenville. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship history, which helps prioritize applications to companies with a real track record.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for project assistants in South Carolina?
South Carolina's manufacturing-heavy economy means many project assistant roles sit within engineering or operations environments, which generally strengthens the specialty occupation argument for H-1B purposes. Employers must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the specific role and county. University of South Carolina and Clemson University both produce international graduates who often transition into project support roles at regional employers through OPT before pursuing full sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project assistant jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
