Which companies sponsor visas for project assistants in Illinois?
Large employers with established immigration programs are the most consistent sponsors for project assistant roles in Illinois. These include consulting firms like Accenture and Deloitte, healthcare systems like Northwestern Medicine and Rush University Medical Center, and major universities such as the University of Illinois and University of Chicago. Technology companies headquartered or with large offices in the Chicago metro area also regularly file H-1B visa petitions for project support positions.
Which visa types are most common for project assistant roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project assistant positions in Illinois, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some positions may also be filled through the L-1B intracompany transfer category for candidates moving within a multinational organization. OPT and STEM OPT are frequently used as bridge periods by international graduates before transitioning to employer-sponsored status.
Which cities in Illinois have the most project assistant sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of project assistant visa sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, River North, and Fulton Market districts where consulting, finance, and technology firms are concentrated. Evanston and Hyde Park see demand driven by Northwestern University and the University of Chicago respectively. Suburban areas like Schaumburg, Naperville, and Deerfield host corporate headquarters that occasionally sponsor project support roles as well.
How to find project assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse project assistant openings in Illinois without sifting through roles that don't support international candidates. You can filter by state and job category to surface positions at employers that have an active history of sponsoring work visas. This is particularly useful for project assistant roles, where sponsorship eligibility varies significantly from one employer and job posting to the next.
Are there state-specific or role-specific considerations for project assistants seeking sponsorship in Illinois?
Illinois does not have a state-level visa program, so federal categories like H-1B apply universally. One role-specific consideration is that project assistant titles can vary widely in their degree requirements, which affects specialty occupation eligibility under H-1B rules. Candidates with degrees from Illinois universities such as U of I Urbana-Champaign or Illinois Institute of Technology may have an advantage with employers already familiar with those programs. Chicago's large professional services sector also creates more sponsoring employers per capita than most U.S. markets outside New York and San Francisco.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project assistant jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
