Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for project assistant roles?
Large Michigan employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories include Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, and major automotive suppliers like Magna International and BorgWarner. University of Michigan and Michigan State University also sponsor project assistants in research and administrative capacities. These organizations have established HR and legal infrastructure to manage the sponsorship process, making them more likely to pursue it than smaller firms.
Which visa types are most common for project assistant positions in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for project assistant roles in Michigan, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Some candidates working in academic or research environments may hold J-1 or F-1 OPT status. Those from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visas if the role fits a listed TN occupation category.
Which Michigan cities have the most project assistant visa sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding metro area, including Dearborn and Auburn Hills, account for the largest concentration of project assistant sponsorship jobs due to the automotive industry presence. Ann Arbor follows closely, driven by the University of Michigan and its affiliated research institutions. Grand Rapids has a growing manufacturing and healthcare sector with sponsoring employers, and Lansing sees demand through state government contractors and Michigan State University.
How to find project assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters project assistant roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship status, so you are not sorting through listings that do not apply to your situation. The platform aggregates positions from Michigan employers across automotive, research, and manufacturing sectors. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have actively sponsored work visas, saving significant time compared to general job searches.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for project assistants in Michigan?
Michigan's concentration in automotive and advanced manufacturing means project assistant roles often require technical coordination skills tied to engineering or supply chain programs, which strengthens specialty occupation arguments for H-1B purposes. The University of Michigan's research pipeline also produces a steady stream of OPT-eligible candidates that employers are accustomed to hiring. Prevailing wage compliance is required regardless of industry, and Michigan's major metro areas each fall under different Department of Labor wage determinations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project assistant jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
