Which companies sponsor visas for electrical controls engineers in Utah?
Companies with documented H-1B sponsorship activity for engineering roles in Utah include L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, Hexcel, and Autoliv. Larger manufacturing operations in the Salt Lake City metro and the Wasatch Front industrial corridor are the most active sponsors. Defense contractors dominate the sector, though some positions require security clearance eligibility, which can limit international candidates.
Which visa types are most common for electrical controls engineer roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa for electrical controls engineers in Utah, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may also be eligible for the TN visa under the NAFTA-successor USMCA agreement, which offers a faster, lottery-free pathway for qualifying engineering roles.
How to find electrical controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for electrical controls engineer roles in Utah where employers have indicated visa sponsorship willingness, saving you from sorting through listings that won't consider international candidates. Because Utah's sponsoring employers are concentrated in aerospace and advanced manufacturing, searching by industry alongside role title on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to the most relevant opportunities.
Which cities in Utah have the most electrical controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City and its surrounding metro, including South Jordan, West Valley City, and Murray, account for the largest share of electrical controls engineering roles in Utah. Ogden is a secondary hub driven by Hill Air Force Base's contractor ecosystem. Provo and Orem also see activity tied to technology-adjacent manufacturing firms along the Wasatch Front.
Are there state-specific considerations for electrical controls engineers seeking sponsorship in Utah?
Utah's concentration of defense and aerospace employers means many electrical controls engineer positions carry security clearance requirements, which can affect sponsorship timelines and eligibility for international workers still in the process of obtaining status. The U.S. Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for electrical controls engineers in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area govern minimum compensation levels that sponsoring employers must meet when filing a Labor Condition Application.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical controls engineer jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
