Which companies sponsor visas for electrical controls engineers in Texas?
Large industrial and energy companies account for most sponsorship activity for electrical controls engineers in Texas. Honeywell, Emerson Electric, Schneider Electric, ExxonMobil, and Chevron Phillips Chemical are among the employers that have filed Labor Condition Applications for controls engineering roles in the state. Aerospace and defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, which operates major facilities in Fort Worth, also sponsor for these positions.
Which visa types are most common for electrical controls engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for electrical controls engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Candidates from Canada and Mexico may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, which does not require a lottery and can be obtained at the border or a port of entry. Australian citizens may be eligible for the E-3 visa.
Which cities in Texas have the most electrical controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads the state for electrical controls engineer sponsorship, driven by the concentration of oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial automation companies along the Gulf Coast. Dallas-Fort Worth follows, with demand from aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing employers. San Antonio has a growing manufacturing and defense presence, while Austin's semiconductor and technology sector generates demand, particularly in facilities-related controls engineering roles.
How to find electrical controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor visas, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact. For electrical controls engineer roles in Texas, you can filter by state and role type on Migrate Mate to surface positions in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and other active hiring markets. The platform is built for international candidates navigating U.S. visa sponsorship.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for electrical controls engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how employers structure compensation packages relative to prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program. The state's heavy concentration in oil, gas, and petrochemical industries means many controls engineering roles require familiarity with industry safety standards such as ISA and NFPA. Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin produce a steady pipeline of electrical engineering graduates, so international candidates benefit from targeting employers with existing sponsorship infrastructure rather than those hiring internationally for the first time.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical controls engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
