Which companies sponsor visas for accountants in Virginia?
Northern Virginia's large professional services and defense contracting sector drives most accountant sponsorship. Firms like Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Leidos have documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for accounting roles. Federal government contractors headquartered in the Tysons Corner and Arlington corridors are particularly active, as their compliance and financial reporting requirements create consistent demand for credentialed accountants.
Which visa types are most common for accountant roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for accountants in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. L-1B and L-1A visas are also used when candidates transfer from a foreign affiliate of a Virginia-based employer. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue TN visa status under the USMCA, which explicitly covers accountants.
Which cities in Virginia have the most accountant sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Arlington, McLean, Tysons Corner, and Reston, has the highest concentration of sponsored accountant roles due to proximity to federal agencies and large consulting firms. Richmond is a secondary hub with meaningful activity in financial services and state government contracting. Charlottesville and Virginia Beach have smaller but active markets, primarily tied to healthcare systems and regional employers.
How to find accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters accountant roles in Virginia to show only positions where employers have demonstrated a willingness to sponsor work visas. Rather than sorting through thousands of generic postings, you can search directly for accountant openings in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and other Virginia metros with sponsorship context already surfaced. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate also helps match your credentials to relevant Virginia employers.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
Virginia's proximity to Washington D.C. means many employers are federal contractors subject to government audit and compliance standards, which can favor candidates with CPA credentials or government accounting experience. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the specific metropolitan area, so Northern Virginia positions are benchmarked against the D.C. metro wage data rather than statewide averages. CPA licensure from the Virginia Board of Accountancy strengthens sponsorship applications.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accountant jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
