Essential Functions:
As a C&DM professional, you will play a vital role in enabling mission success by establishing and leading configuration and data management processes across the full program lifecycle, from procurement and development through integration, test, delivery, and operations in support of large- and small-scale projects, programs, and organizations.

- Lead and support Configuration Control Board (CCB) and Engineering Review Board (ERB) activities, including facilitating meetings, developing agendas, recording and publishing minutes, tracking actions, and managing changes through disposition and implementation
- Manage program baseline documentation, including document control, review and approval routing, release, and status accounting reporting
- Coordinate the review, disposition, and distribution of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs) and informal partner deliverables, ensuring all contractual data obligations are met
- Administer and optimize C&DM repositories, databases, and tools, leveraging technology to drive efficiency and accessibility across the project team; monitor data storage and prevent data sprawl
- Develop and maintain C&DM metrics, reports, and dashboards as appropriate to benchmark and communicate C&DM performance
- Prepare and support internal and external C&DM audits, maintaining audit-ready records and leading corrective action follow-through including collaboration with other organizations (e.g., Safety & Mission Assurance, Mishap investigations, external auditors)
- Support and coordinate records management activities, ensuring documentation is accurately tagged and compliant with National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and NASA requirements, and managing the seamless transition of records to the approved archival system
- Develop and deliver C&DM training materials at program kickoff, new team member orientation, and throughout the project lifecycle to ensure consistent understanding and adoption of processes across the team
- Collaborate closely with program staff, customer representatives, functional organizations, and suppliers to ensure accurate and effective implementation of all C&DM requirements
- Continuously evaluate and champion innovative technologies and process improvements to deliver more effective and efficient C&DM support, keeping the program ahead of evolving needs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Proactive and self-motivated professional with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
- Exceptionally detail-oriented with a strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a drive to continuously improve processes and find innovative solutions
- Effective communicator and collaborator, capable of working across program teams, customer representatives, and stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of C&DM industry standards, with the ability to establish and support configuration management systems for both new and existing projects
- Proven experience developing, documenting, and implementing C&DM processes and procedures in support of government contracts
- Proficient in the MS 365 suite of tools, with specific experience in SharePoint site organization, document management, and workflow development
- Must meet government National Agency Check (NAC) and citizenship or permanent residency requirements for access to NASA assets
- Ability to travel domestically; occasional and limited travel will be required for this role

Which companies sponsor visas for data managers in Virginia?
Federal contractors and technology firms lead visa sponsorship for data managers in Virginia. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, and Capital One have all filed Labor Condition Applications for data management roles in the state. Amazon Web Services, headquartered in Arlington, is also a consistent sponsor. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and varies by role, team, and business need at the time of hiring.
Which visa types are most common for data manager roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data managers in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Some employers also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers with specialized knowledge. Candidates from Australia may have access to the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN category.
Which cities in Virginia have the most data manager sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the cities of Arlington, McLean, Reston, and Herndon, accounts for the highest concentration of data manager sponsorship jobs in the state. This corridor is home to federal contractors, cybersecurity firms, and cloud infrastructure companies. Richmond has a smaller but active market driven by financial services firms like Capital One and Genworth, while Charlottesville sees some activity tied to the University of Virginia's research operations.
How to find data manager visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters data manager roles in Virginia to those where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, you can browse roles in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and other markets knowing sponsorship is part of the hiring picture. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate lets you track relevant openings as they're posted.
Are there state-specific considerations for data manager visa sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia's large federal contracting sector introduces a practical consideration: many data manager roles require security clearances, which are generally not accessible to visa holders without U.S. citizenship or permanent residence. This narrows the pool of sponsoring employers somewhat, so targeting commercial technology firms, financial services companies, and cloud providers in Northern Virginia tends to yield more realistic sponsorship opportunities for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data manager jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
