- Manage complete equipment lifecycle quality, working closely with suppliers, engineering, procurement and other internal stakeholders.

- Drive Supplier Quality Improvement Programs track supplier performance along with goal settings for key performance indicators.
- Develop critical to quality parameters, perform critical-to-quality inspections and functional testing for complex equipment to ensure suppliers provide defect-free, high quality equipment to AWS and its customers.
- Review historical failures, equipment design changes and lessons learned to incorporate relevant inspections & tests and update equipment technical specifications.
- Lead complex electrical and mechanical infrastructure equipment as well as critical component(s) root cause analysis, working with suppliers, cross-functional teams such as reliability and design engineering teams.
- Responsible for evaluating and validating complex root cause analysis reports from a technical perspective using critical thinking and quality principles.
- Develop new product (equipment) and/or new supplier qualification plans in terms of quality. Drive the quality program from prototyping to mass production stage for complex electrical and mechanical equipment that are part of AWS Data Centers.
- Ability to perform data analysis on failures reported during the equipment life cycle and create technical reports to provide design and specification improvement inputs and to drive improvement(s) at supplier factories.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
- Demonstrate a can-do attitude and thriving in a fast-paced work environment.
- Keys to success in this role include sound judgment and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- This role requires 30-50% international and domestic travel.

Which companies sponsor visas for software quality engineers in Virginia?
Defense and government contractors dominate Virginia's software quality engineering market, with Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, General Dynamics IT, and Perspecta among the more active sponsors. Commercial tech employers including Amazon Web Services, Capital One, and Microstrategy also hire QA engineers in Northern Virginia. Sponsorship frequency varies by role, clearance requirements, and hiring cycle, so checking employer-specific H-1B disclosure data gives the clearest picture.
Which visa types are most common for software quality engineer roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software quality engineers in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. L-1B visas appear for engineers transferring from a foreign affiliate. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role fits qualifying USMCA occupation categories.
Which cities in Virginia have the most software quality engineer sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Tysons Corner, Reston, Herndon, and Arlington areas, accounts for the large majority of software quality engineer sponsorship activity in the state. This corridor houses the headquarters or major offices of dozens of defense contractors and tech firms. Richmond has a smaller but growing presence, driven by Capital One's headquarters and expanding fintech activity. Remote-eligible roles may list a Virginia address without requiring on-site work.
How to find software quality engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for software quality engineer roles in Virginia without sifting through positions that won't sponsor. The platform aggregates openings from defense contractors, commercial tech employers, and consulting firms active in Northern Virginia. Setting up alerts for software quality engineer roles in Virginia means you see new sponsorship listings as they appear rather than checking manually.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for software quality engineers seeking sponsorship?
A significant portion of Virginia's software quality engineering roles involve federal government work, which often requires security clearances. Clearance eligibility is generally limited to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, meaning some positions are effectively unavailable to visa holders regardless of sponsorship willingness. Employers hiring for unclassified commercial or cloud-focused QA work are the more realistic targets for international candidates. University pipelines from Virginia Tech and George Mason University supply local talent, which can affect competition for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software quality engineer jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
