Which technology companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Washington DC?
Washington DC's technology sponsorship activity is concentrated among government contractors and defense-adjacent firms. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, Deloitte's government technology division, and Accenture Federal Services have consistent STEM OPT extension filing histories. Commercially oriented tech employers including Amazon Web Services, Capital One, and Palantir also maintain active sponsorship activity across the DC metro corridor.
Which cities in Washington DC have the most technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Washington DC is a single-district jurisdiction, not a multi-city state, but the broader metro area matters for job seekers. Employers filing STEM OPT extensions are clustered in DC proper, Tysons Corner and McLean in Northern Virginia, and Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland. Many positions list a DC address but operate under hybrid arrangements spanning the full National Capital Region.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles qualifying for STEM OPT extension must appear on the Department of Homeland Security STEM Designated Degree Program List and involve a STEM-related degree. In Washington DC's technology sector, qualifying positions commonly include software engineer, data analyst, cybersecurity analyst, cloud infrastructure engineer, machine learning engineer, and systems architect. The role must also involve direct application of the graduate's STEM degree field.
How do I find technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Migrate Mate lets you filter technology jobs in Washington DC specifically by F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship eligibility, drawing on verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing data to surface employers with active sponsorship histories. This is more reliable than searching general job boards, where sponsorship claims are unverified. Filtering by employer STEM OPT filing history narrows your search to companies already familiar with the extension process.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Washington DC's technology sector?
Washington DC's technology sector is heavily shaped by federal contracting, which introduces a distinct consideration: many positions require security clearances that F-1 students on STEM OPT are generally ineligible to obtain as non-U.S. persons. Job seekers should prioritize roles at employers whose technology work is commercially oriented or falls under unclassified government programs, where clearance requirements are not a prerequisite for employment.
