Which companies sponsor visas for legal counsels in Washington?
Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing are among the most active sponsors of legal counsel roles in Washington, given their large in-house legal teams. Technology companies in the Seattle and Eastside corridors frequently petition for attorneys specializing in intellectual property, privacy law, and commercial contracts. Healthcare systems like Providence and UW Medicine also sponsor legal counsel positions, particularly for regulatory and compliance-focused roles.
Which visa types are most common for legal counsel roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa for legal counsel positions in Washington, as in-house attorney roles at corporations typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at minimum a Juris Doctor degree. Candidates with a foreign law degree who have passed a U.S. bar exam are generally eligible. The O-1A is an alternative pathway for attorneys with demonstrated exceptional ability, and the TN visa covers certain Canadian and Mexican attorneys in qualifying roles.
Which cities in Washington have the most legal counsel sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the largest concentration of legal counsel sponsorship opportunities in Washington, driven by its technology and aerospace industries. Bellevue and Kirkland, home to major corporate campuses on the Eastside, also generate consistent demand for in-house legal talent. Tacoma and Olympia offer smaller but steady opportunities, particularly in government-adjacent legal work and regulated industries such as utilities and healthcare.
How to find legal counsel visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters legal counsel roles in Washington by visa sponsorship availability, so you are not sifting through postings that do not support international candidates. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate surfaces positions from technology firms, aerospace companies, healthcare systems, and financial institutions across Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland that have active sponsorship histories.
Are there state-specific factors that affect legal counsel sponsorship in Washington?
Washington's concentration of large technology companies creates unusually high demand for in-house legal counsel with expertise in data privacy, intellectual property, and cross-border transactions, which strengthens the case for H-1B sponsorship in those specialties. Washington has no state income tax, which influences total compensation structuring but does not affect visa eligibility. Attorneys educated outside the U.S. should verify their bar admission eligibility in Washington before applying, as reciprocity rules vary.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored legal counsel jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
