The Opportunity
We’re building the next generation of AI-native product experiences, where conversations turn directly into outcomes. As a Staff Software Engineer on our Product teams, you’ll define how these capabilities are translated into scalable systems and cohesive product experiences.
You’ll operate across the full lifecycle of AI-driven features—from data ingestion and model orchestration to output structuring and delivery into user-facing product surfaces—but at a systems level. This includes shaping the architecture behind generation pipelines, defining how AI outputs are structured and persisted, and ensuring these systems are reliable, performant, and adaptable as both product requirements and underlying models evolve.
This role goes beyond individual features. You’ll drive technical direction across product areas, aligning product, AI, and infrastructure teams on how to build AI-native systems that scale. You’ll help define patterns for how we evaluate, iterate on, and continuously improve AI-driven experiences, turning ambiguous opportunities into clear systems and execution plans.
You’ll partner closely with product, design, and AI teams to identify high-leverage opportunities, prototype new approaches, and guide them into production—shaping both the product experience and the underlying systems that power it.
Your Impact
-
Define system architecture for AI-native product surfaces
Design foundational systems (generation pipelines, data models, evaluation frameworks) that power multiple product areas.
-
Drive cross-team technical strategy
Lead initiatives that span product, AI, and infrastructure teams, ensuring alignment on architecture and execution.
-
Establish best practices for AI product engineering
Set standards for how we build with AI—covering areas like evaluation, reliability, iteration loops, and system design.
-
Translate ambiguity into scalable systems and product direction
Take loosely defined opportunities and turn them into clear technical approaches and execution plans.
-
Raise the bar across the organization
Influence engineering quality, system design, and product thinking beyond your immediate team.
-
Shape how AI accelerates engineering velocity
Drive adoption and best practices for AI-assisted development, improving how teams design, build, and iterate on product.
We're looking for someone who
- Has 10+ years of experience building and scaling complex systems
- Has a strong track record of owning technical and product direction for large or ambiguous problem spaces
- Demonstrates deep expertise in system design, especially in data-intensive or distributed systems
- Has experience leading cross-team initiatives and influencing without direct authority
- Brings strong product intuition and can balance user experience, system constraints, and business impact
- Is comfortable operating at a high level of ambiguity and defining both the problem and the solution
Nice to haves
- Experience building or experimenting with LLM-powered features (prompting, evaluation, RAG, etc.)
- Experience designing systems that balance latency, cost, and quality
- Exposure to user feedback loops, experimentation, or evaluation frameworks

Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in Washington?
Microsoft and Amazon are the largest sponsors of product software engineer roles in Washington, with consistent H-1B filings visible in DOL disclosure data. Google, Salesforce, Meta, Zillow, and Tableau (Salesforce) also have significant engineering presence in the Seattle and Redmond areas. Expedia, T-Mobile, and a range of funded startups in the Puget Sound region also appear in sponsorship filings for product-focused engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product software engineers in Washington. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT may work while an H-1B petition is pending. The O-1A is an alternative for engineers with demonstrated exceptional achievement, though it requires substantial documentation.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to search for product software engineer roles in Washington without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. You can narrow results by location to focus on the Seattle metro, Redmond, and Bellevue, where most Washington sponsorship activity is concentrated. Migrate Mate pulls from employers with verified sponsorship history for product engineering roles.
Which cities in Washington have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Redmond account for the large majority of product software engineer sponsorship activity in Washington. Redmond is dominated by Microsoft's campus, while Seattle hosts Amazon's headquarters alongside offices for Google, Meta, Salesforce, and dozens of mid-size tech companies. Bellevue has grown into a secondary hub, with companies like Expedia and T-Mobile headquartered there. Smaller pockets of activity exist in Kirkland and Bothell.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for product software engineer visa sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since DOL wage determinations are based on gross compensation. Product software engineer roles in the Seattle metropolitan area fall under some of the highest prevailing wage levels in the country, meaning employers must offer competitive compensation to satisfy H-1B Labor Condition Application requirements. The University of Washington also produces a significant pipeline of international engineering graduates who enter the local job market on OPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
