Our team includes professionals in civil engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, and field services — all driven by a shared commitment to the communities we serve.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Marketing & Design Specialist plays a key role in supporting Thrasher’s business development, marketing, and communications efforts. This position combines graphic design, strategic thinking, proposal development, and content creation to help the firm pursue new opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and communicate complex ideas effectively. This is not a traditional graphic design position. While strong design skills are essential, success here requires curiosity, critical thinking, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to learn about the industries and communities we serve. The ideal candidate understands that great design is more than aesthetics — it is a tool for communicating ideas, influencing decisions, and telling compelling stories.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, coordinate, and produce proposals, qualifications packages, statements of interest, interview presentations, and other business development materials
- Research clients, communities, projects, funding opportunities, industry trends, and competitors to support strategic pursuits and marketing initiatives
- Collaborate with technical staff and project teams to gather information, identify key messages, and develop compelling content for proposals, presentations, and marketing materials
- Transform complex technical information into clear, persuasive, and audience-focused communications
- Create presentation materials, graphics, infographics, maps, charts, and visual elements that improve understanding and strengthen communication
- Write, edit, and format project descriptions, staff resumes, case studies, award submissions, articles, and marketing content
- Develop print and digital marketing materials, advertisements, event materials, recruitment pieces, and promotional content
- Assist with and curate content for websites, social media, email marketing, and other communications as needed
- Maintain proposal, presentation, and marketing templates while ensuring consistency with company brand standards
- Manage multiple deadlines and priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and quality

Which companies in West Virginia sponsor visas for marketing roles?
West Virginia University and its affiliated health system are among the more consistent sponsors of skilled worker visas in the state, given their size and ongoing need for communications and marketing professionals. Larger regional healthcare networks like WVU Medicine and Charleston Area Medical Center also hire for marketing positions. Multistate energy companies operating in West Virginia, such as Appalachian Power, occasionally sponsor international marketing hires when recruiting for specialized roles.
Which visa types are most common for marketing roles in West Virginia?
The H-1B visa is the most widely used visa for marketing professionals in West Virginia, covering roles like market research analyst, digital marketing specialist, and communications manager, which typically require a bachelor's degree in a related field. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated exceptional achievement in marketing. TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals working in qualifying marketing-adjacent occupations under the USMCA agreement.
How to find marketing visa sponsorship jobs in West Virginia?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for marketing visa sponsorship jobs in West Virginia. The platform filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor international candidates, so you can focus on roles at institutions like WVU, regional healthcare systems, and energy companies rather than sifting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. Filtering by state and role type on Migrate Mate narrows results to what's actually actionable for your situation.
Which cities in West Virginia have the most marketing sponsorship jobs?
Morgantown and Charleston account for most of the marketing sponsorship activity in the state. Morgantown is anchored by West Virginia University and WVU Medicine, both of which employ marketing and communications teams at scale. Charleston, as the state capital, hosts state agency communications offices, regional healthcare employers, and some corporate headquarters. Huntington, home to Marshall University and a regional medical center, is a smaller but secondary market worth monitoring.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for marketing professionals in West Virginia?
West Virginia's relatively small economy means the pool of employers with active H-1B sponsorship programs is narrower than in larger states. Most sponsorship activity is concentrated in healthcare, higher education, and energy sectors rather than tech or consumer goods. Employers must pay the prevailing wage for the specific marketing role and geographic area as determined by the Department of Labor, which applies regardless of the state. University and hospital employers often have established HR processes for sponsorship, making them more predictable partners for international candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored marketing jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
