Which companies sponsor visas for controls technicians in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin manufacturers and automation integrators are among the more active sponsors for controls technician roles. Companies operating large production facilities in Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and the Fox Valley region, including food processing, paper manufacturing, and automotive suppliers, have historically filed H-1B visa and other work visa petitions for skilled controls and automation technicians. Checking DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data can help identify specific sponsors by location and role.
Which visa types are most common for controls technician roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for controls technicians in Wisconsin, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control systems, or a related technical field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for the TN visa under the engineer category. Some roles may also be filled through the H-2B visa or through employer-sponsored EB-3 immigrant visa petitions for longer-term positions.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most controls technician sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee leads Wisconsin for controls technician sponsorship activity, given its concentration of industrial manufacturers and automation integrators. Green Bay and Appleton in the Fox Valley corridor are strong secondary markets, particularly in paper, packaging, and food processing industries. Oshkosh, Racine, and Kenosha also have notable manufacturing bases where controls and instrumentation technicians are regularly recruited.
How to find controls technician visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify Wisconsin employers actively willing to sponsor controls technicians rather than sorting through postings that don't address immigration support. Searching for controls technician roles on Migrate Mate and filtering by Wisconsin surfaces positions in Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Fox Valley manufacturing hubs where sponsorship is explicitly indicated by the hiring employer.
Are there state-specific factors controls technicians should know about Wisconsin sponsorship jobs?
Wisconsin's manufacturing economy means controls technician roles often require hands-on PLC and SCADA experience rather than purely theoretical qualifications, which can affect how employers document specialty occupation status for H-1B petitions. The University of Wisconsin system and Milwaukee School of Engineering produce local talent, so sponsored candidates typically need a differentiated technical background. Prevailing wage determinations for controls roles vary by county, with Milwaukee and Dane County generally carrying higher wage levels than rural Wisconsin.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls technician jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
