Which companies in Utah sponsor visas for controls technicians?
Northrop Grumman, L3Harris Technologies, and Kennecott Utah Copper are among Utah employers with histories of sponsoring skilled technical workers. Smaller automation integrators and utility companies in the Salt Lake City and Ogden areas also hire controls technicians and have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B workers, though sponsorship willingness varies by role and business need.
What visa types are most common for controls technician roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa for controls technician positions that require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, instrumentation, or a closely related field. Some roles may qualify under the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals if the position maps to an eligible USMCA occupation. O-1 visas are occasionally pursued by candidates with demonstrated exceptional technical expertise.
Which Utah cities have the most controls technician visa sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City and its surrounding metro, including Murray, West Valley City, and Sandy, account for the largest share of controls technician openings statewide. Ogden has a notable concentration due to its defense and aerospace manufacturing base. St. George is a smaller but growing market tied to utilities and infrastructure projects in southern Utah.
How to find controls technician visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, saving you from sifting through postings that exclude international candidates. For controls technician positions in Utah, you can search by location and role on Migrate Mate to surface relevant openings at manufacturers, defense contractors, and utilities across the Salt Lake City metro and Ogden corridor.
Are there any Utah-specific considerations for controls technician sponsorship candidates?
Utah's defense and aerospace sector includes several federal contractors, and some positions require U.S. security clearances, which are generally not available to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Candidates should confirm clearance requirements before applying. Utah also participates in DOL prevailing wage determinations, so sponsoring employers must document that compensation meets the applicable wage level for the controls technician occupation in the relevant metro area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls technician jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
