Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for creative roles?
Milwaukee-based employers like Northwestern Mutual, Kohl's, and Harley-Davidson have sponsored creative and design professionals. In Madison, Epic Systems and the University of Wisconsin-Madison hire for UX, content, and communication roles with sponsorship. Wisconsin's agency sector, including firms serving healthcare and financial services clients, also sponsors international creatives, though capacity varies by employer and position.
What visa types are most common for creative jobs in Wisconsin?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for creative roles in Wisconsin, covering positions like UX designer, art director, and content strategist when the role requires a specific bachelor's degree. The O-1A is an option for creatives with demonstrated extraordinary achievement. International students completing degrees at UW-Madison or MSOE may work under OPT before pursuing employer-sponsored H-1B status.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most creative visa sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the majority of creative sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Milwaukee has a larger corporate base with marketing, brand, and design teams at financial services and consumer goods companies. Madison's tech and healthcare-adjacent ecosystem, anchored by Epic Systems and UW-Madison, generates demand for UX and digital content professionals. Green Bay and Racine have limited but occasional openings.
How to find creative visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have sponsored visas, so you can browse creative positions in Wisconsin without sorting through companies unlikely to consider international candidates. Searching by role type within Wisconsin on Migrate Mate surfaces UX, design, content, and art direction openings at employers with documented sponsorship histories, which narrows your search considerably compared to general job boards.
Are there any state-specific considerations for creative roles in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin does not have a state-level immigration program, so sponsorship follows standard federal H-1B rules. Creative roles must qualify as specialty occupations, meaning the position must typically require a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. UW-Madison and Milwaukee School of Engineering produce design and communications graduates, creating a local talent pipeline that employers draw from, which can affect how actively they pursue international sponsorship for entry-level creative roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored creative jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
