Frame your degree as a direct match
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to change management. A degree in organizational behavior, industrial-organizational psychology, or business administration strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case considerably more than a general management degree.
Target employers with established change programs
Large consulting firms, healthcare systems, and financial institutions run structured change management practices and sponsor more predictably than companies hiring their first coordinator. Look for organizations with dedicated OCM or transformation teams already in place.
Highlight Prosci or ACMP certifications
Certifications like Prosci ADKAR or ACMP's CCMP signal professional-level expertise that supports a specialty occupation argument. Immigration attorneys frequently cite professional certifications when documenting why the role requires a degree-level practitioner.
Understand the LCA prevailing wage requirement
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your offered compensation meets the prevailing wage for the role and location. Roles positioned at a higher wage level also face less USCIS scrutiny during H-1B adjudication, so job level matters.
Canadian and Mexican nationals have a TN path
Change Management Coordinators with a management consulting or business administration background may qualify for TN status under the Management Consultant category, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be processed at the border or port of entry.
Request an offer letter that details the degree requirement
Your employer's offer letter should explicitly state that a bachelor's degree in a specific field is required for the role, not merely preferred. This single document detail meaningfully reduces the risk of an H-1B Request for Evidence on specialty occupation grounds.

Find Change Management Coordinator JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Change Management Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS looks for roles where a specific bachelor's degree, not any degree, is the minimum entry requirement. Change management roles grounded in organizational behavior, industrial-organizational psychology, or business systems analysis are stronger candidates than general coordinator titles. An attorney should review the job description before filing.
What visa options exist for Change Management Coordinators beyond the H-1B?
Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue TN status under the Management Consultant category if the role involves advising on organizational change processes. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa. O-1A is available for coordinators with documented extraordinary achievements, though that bar is high. TN and E-3 are worth exploring first because they bypass the H-1B lottery entirely.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring Change Management Coordinators?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship late in the process. Large consulting firms, hospital networks, and enterprise technology companies account for a disproportionate share of change management sponsorships based on historical LCA filing data.
Will a three-year bachelor's degree from outside the U.S. satisfy the specialty occupation requirement?
Generally yes, provided a credential evaluation confirms it is equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Australian three-year degrees, for example, are routinely accepted as equivalent. The field of study matters as much as the credential level, so the evaluation should address both the degree level and the subject area specifically.
How common is H-1B sponsorship for Change Management Coordinators, and what does the approval process look like?
Sponsorship exists but is less common than in pure technology or engineering roles because some USCIS adjudicators question whether change management meets the specialty occupation standard. Employers with a history of sponsoring similar roles and attorneys experienced in organizational management H-1Bs will produce stronger petitions. Approval rates improve when the job description references specific methodologies like Prosci, Kotter, or ADKAR that require formal training.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Change Management Coordinator jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
