Program Overview
As a Medical Assistant Trainee, you will:
- Complete Medical Assistant coursework through Holyoke Community College
- Participate in a hands-on externship at a Baystate Medical Practice
- Prepare for and obtain your Medical Assistant registration/certification
- Transition into a Medical Assistant I role within Baystate Health upon satisfactory program completion and obtaining certification

What You’ll Do as a Medical Assistant
Medical Assistants play a vital role in patient care, including:
- Taking vital signs and patient histories
- Performing clinical procedures and supporting providers
- Managing clinical documentation and orders
- Assisting with patient discharge and education
You’ll work in a supportive, team-based environment focused on delivering exceptional patient care.
Program Expectations & Schedule
- Education Phase: 32 hours/week for 17 weeks dedicated to coursework
- Externship: 40 hours/week for 4 weeks at a Baystate Health facility
- Post-Externship: 32 hours/week for 2 weeks, including RMA exam preparation
- Ongoing Role: Full-time 40 hours/week Medical Assistant position
Schedule: Monday–Friday, hours range between 8:00-5:30
