Search Program Assistant Jobs in FloridaProgram Assistant Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for program assistants in Florida?
Florida's largest visa sponsors for program assistant roles include major university systems such as the University of Florida and Florida International University, healthcare networks like AdventHealth and Baptist Health South Florida, and federal contractors operating in the Orlando and Tampa defense corridors. Nonprofits and international development organizations headquartered in Miami also regularly file sponsorship petitions for program assistant positions.
Which visa types are most common for program assistant roles in Florida?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for program assistant roles, provided the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. J-1 visas are also frequently used, particularly within Florida's university and research institution settings. Some positions at international organizations may qualify under other nonimmigrant categories depending on the employer's structure.
Which cities in Florida have the most program assistant sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads for program assistant sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of international nonprofits, healthcare systems, and multinational organizations. Orlando follows closely, with university-affiliated medical centers and defense contractors generating consistent openings. Tampa and Gainesville also produce meaningful sponsorship volume, largely tied to USF Health, AdventHealth's Tampa campus, and the University of Florida's research programs.
How to find program assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters program assistant roles in Florida specifically to employers who have a documented history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship is unavailable. You can browse current openings by city or employer type, which is particularly useful given how spread out Florida's sponsoring employers are across Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Gainesville.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for program assistant sponsorship?
Florida's large public university system creates a strong pipeline of H-1B sponsorship for program assistants in academic and research settings, since universities are cap-exempt employers, meaning petitions are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery. This is a meaningful distinction for candidates who have missed the regular cap selection. Florida's nonprofit healthcare sector similarly includes many cap-exempt employers affiliated with university medical centers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program assistant jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
