Which companies and organizations sponsor visas for program assistants in Kansas?
Universities are among the most consistent sponsors for program assistant roles in Kansas. The University of Kansas in Lawrence and Kansas State University in Manhattan regularly hire program assistants in research, administrative, and academic support capacities and have established international hiring processes. Large healthcare systems such as The University of Kansas Health System and state government agencies also sponsor qualified international candidates, particularly for roles requiring specialized skills.
Which visa types are most common for program assistant roles in Kansas?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for program assistant positions, but only when the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Many university-affiliated program assistant positions may also be filled under J-1 exchange visitor status. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT through a U.S. degree can often begin work before a full H-1B sponsorship is initiated by the employer.
Which cities in Kansas have the most program assistant visa sponsorship jobs?
Lawrence and Manhattan are the strongest markets for program assistant sponsorship in Kansas, driven by the University of Kansas and Kansas State University respectively. Wichita, as the state's largest city, offers additional opportunities through its healthcare institutions, nonprofit organizations, and state agency offices. Topeka, the state capital, also has government and public administration program assistant roles that occasionally support international hires.
How to find program assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it easier to identify program assistant openings in Kansas without sorting through positions that won't consider international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface relevant listings from universities, healthcare organizations, and agencies across Lawrence, Manhattan, Wichita, and Topeka. Focusing your search on institutional employers through Migrate Mate improves your chances of finding roles with established sponsorship processes.
Are there any Kansas-specific considerations for program assistants pursuing visa sponsorship?
Kansas employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the prevailing wage as determined by the Department of Labor for the specific role and geographic area. Program assistant positions at research universities often fall under cap-exempt H-1B filings, meaning those employers can file year-round without being subject to the annual lottery. This makes university-affiliated roles in Kansas particularly accessible for international candidates compared to private-sector positions subject to the H-1B cap.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program assistant jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
